July Vineyard Notes

July Vineyard Notes

The Messina Hof Estates Vineyards have just begun veraison. Veraison is the time that the Lenoir grape turns from a green to a pink and later to a dark deep purple. It also signifies that the sugar content in the grape is about 10% and will eventually become 24-30%. This process usually takes 25-35 days from the beginning of veraison. So, the harvest of the Messina Hof Estates vineyard should begin at the end of July. 2017 will be its first vintage.
The landscape at Sagrantino is growing beautifully. The majestic Italian cypresses are growing tall. The brilliant crepe myrtles are gorgeous. It is an exciting time at the estates with so much going on at the clubhouse – Messina Hof Wine Cellars.
