Wine Pairings for Dishes with Rosemary:

  • Like so many of the herbs, Rosemary is a member of the mint family. It is one of the boldest in flavors.
  • The pine needle Rosemary leaf has a pine like flavor with hints of menthol, citrus, and pepper. This pungent flavor weight in the herb makes the dish more harmonious with wines of heavier flavor weight.
  • Fresh Rosemary has more pungent flavor than dried. Take care to marry the pungent flavors in the dish with a wine that will not be smothered by the herb. Fresh rosemary dishes marry better with reds like Grenache, Sangiovese, and GSM or whites like Viognier or Riesling. Dried Rosemary marries well with more tannic wines like Primitivo, Sagrantino, and Cabernet Sauvignon in the reds and Bonarrigo Heritage White or Rose’.
  • Just about any recipe with Rosemary added is more compatible with red wines. Dishes like Rosemary Chicken, Lamb with Rosemary Crust, and Rosemary Roasted Potatoes are some of our favorites.
  • The Rosemary Focaccia recipe is versatile and lightly flavored to go with most wines.
